Those damn hippies
Well my name is red neck Texan,
But you good folk can call me red.
And I’m here cos I got a story to tell,
About a time when common decency fell
And people would walk around with flowers in their hair,
Preaching of love, speaking with rage and claiming to care.
Now they said we should ban the bombs,
Even claimed killing was wrong
And they tried to put a stop to all of the wars,
With placards and music and demonstration walks.
(Chorus)
Those damn hippies
They smell of skunk
Those damn hippies
They're all scum
Now they said we should be walking around naked,
At one with all of nature,
Well then I got mamma to take off her glasses,
In case she saw soming she wanted!
And they read books and wrote songs about taking to the road,
But then they were all bums without jobs,
Becoming hobo’s and jumping the train,
Taking from me and well taking from the state.
(Chorus)
Those damn hippies
They smell of skunk
Those damn hippies
You know the ones
Well then I met a gal and guess what?
She was one of them,
But she kinda looked nice with those flowers in her hair.
So I read about timothy Leary and I took some of those magic pills,
Made me kinda bleary like whisky from a still.
And I heard about Hiroshima and Vietnam
From a different side of the plain.
And I thought these hippies their not so bad,
So me and my gal caught the next train out of the state.
(Chorus)
Those damn hippies
They smell of skunk
Those damn hippies
Made me one of them
Made me one of them
